Deneez grow-up in the heart of South London and currently still resides there. She is the daughter to her Jamaican born Parents Mr & Peters who ensured her upbringing was one of respect and to be respected in whichever path she decided to venture. From a young age one of Deneez’s musical inspirations is her father Freddie Notes. In the early 70s Feddie worked with the Rudies and produced an album entitled Montego Bay. “I remember from a young age Dad taking me to his shows… watching him perform on stage back then and still do as always been an inspiration for me”. Her father has taught her a lot about his experiences in the music business whether good or bad back in his days and Deneez absorb it all in.
Deneez has always had a passion to be a singer just like her father and at the age of 18 decided to take that passion to reality. Working alongside her brother Ian Peters (songwriter) Ian decided to put his written words to songs and came up with a duo called VelveTouch consisting of Deneez and Stacey back in the mid to late 80s. VelveTouch would become very popular in and around London with their commercial soul combined with their 80s fashion – which was none to be reckoned with, performing in Schools, College’s and Park Festivals. They were being promoted on the local radio station and local magazines such as ‘Rhythm and Blues’ who wrote an article on the duo. They were approached by someone who said they were managing Mel and Kim at the time and wanted to move their career further (did not come to fruition) – however that did not stop them from pursuing their goals - one of top songs they promoted was called “VelveTouch” and “Free & Single” followed by “Boyz”. All these songs were written by Ian Peters and music production at the time by Derek Février. VeleTouch would later fade and go their separate ways in 1990.
Deneez eventually branched out on her own releasing her first single as a solo artist entitled “Touch and Go” released on Diamond Records which was a subsidiary for GEM Stones Records - this song was an upbeat dance song which incorporated Deneez’s rap style vocals addition to it. A rendition of SOS Band “No One’s Gonna Love You” track was next on the agenda and was never released only on promo. Whilst Deneez worked on her album she was introduced to Wee Papa Girl Rappers and managed to secure a deal doing backing vocals for the girls as well as an extra in the making of their video to a track called ‘Get in The Groove’ they appeared on the ‘Hitman & Her’ live at the Discoteque Royale in Manchester in 1990 which was shown at 4am on a Friday night.
In 1994 Deneez went into modelling joining a modelling school called Laurie Small Academy of Modelling and achieved a distinction award on completion for her hard work. This led her to partake in various fashion shows around the UK and eventually beauty pageants... winning titles such as Miss Beautiful Legs, Miss Afro Caribbean UK, Miss Pioneer and Miss Jamaica UK. In October 1996 she then went on to acting. She took a leading role in a community play.
Over the next decade Deneez would continue to perform at various venues until she took an interest in DJing in the year 1999 and has never looked back. She started out djing at her local public house in Vauxhall and then 6 months later onto her local community radio station and has been presenting and djing ever since.
Deneez has come a long way since her early days branching out into modelling as well as working on various music projects. She would later start presenting her own radio show for her local community radio station gaining her 16 years of experience in this field. Whilst Deneez still presents her show every Saturday 4-6pm‘SOUL IN MOTION SHOW’ on www.loversrockradio.com Deneez is working on completing her new Loversrock album.
You will also find Deneez working alongside her father on various shows as his backing vocalists and supporting act.
